Establishing Internet Connection in Ubuntu after installation

To use Ubuntu efficiently internet connectivity is a must. Various software packages need internet connectivity either to get upgraded or to get installed. Following steps must be followed to set up wired network connection: System-preferences -network connection-IPv4tab-enter details (e.g. IP address, subnet mask, default gateway,etc)-click close. Now try surfing. If you are using client software then log in to surf the net.
